Last week, Butler County Community College took another step forward as a regional institution of higher learning.On Friday, October 8, the College announced an expansion into the Upper Allegheny region of PA. BC3 will offer distance education as well as face-to-face classes to students in Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Crawford, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean, Potter, Venango, and Warren counties. We will do so by using the Jefferson County Career Center, Potter County Community Education Council (CEC), Port Allegany CEC, St. Mary’s Warren-Forest Higher Education Council and the Clarion County Career Center.
The is the exact approach we took in getting started in Lawrence and Mercer counties. Today, these two counties have close to 1,200 students taking classes. Both of these sites receieve state funding that allows us to provide a community college education to underserved areas.
The goal is to replicate our out-of-county model in the Upper Allegheny region. With the help of grant money, this current venture will give us a two-year pilot period to evaluate the sustainability of such a venture.
Classes will being in the spring semester.
