The College is currently monitoring the Swine Influenza A (H1N1) situation.
The College is using the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention website for daily updates. As of 11:00 a.m. today, 64 confirmed cases of the Swine Flu infection have been confirmed in the United States, with the closest located in northern Ohio.
As of today, the World Health Organization is currently at a Phase 4 pandemic alert. As Phase 4 pandemic alert means a sustained human to human transmission has been identified. The College, just like many other organizations, has pegged the implementation of an emergency response to the recommendations of the Department of Health and Human Services/Centers for Disease Control and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
As you know, the College has used this year to address emergency preparedness. We have participated in mock drills, invested in tools for instant communication and refined our internal process in conjunction with the use of appropriate external resources.
We will also take proactive measures. For example, signage will be placed in bathrooms for reminders to wash hands and students will be communicated with via Facebook and email.
The College will communicate on as as-needed basis pertaining to this situation. Should you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact me directly.
Thank you.
