Spring Break at Pennsylvania’s No. 1 Community College is here! While students and faculty are enjoying some well-deserved rest and relaxation, it has been a busy few weeks.
From February 13-16, Executive Director of the BC3 Education Foundation and External Relations Ruth Purcell and I attended The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C. We met with Congressmen Mike Kelly and Keith Rothfus and spent time with staff members of Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey. We discussed the importance of our country’s 1,100 community colleges and asked for continued support of federal PELL grants.
On February 25, my wife Tammy and I represented the College at the first Butler Radio “Men Who Cook” event, a fundraiser for local charities. While I didn’t exactly cook, our students in the Hospitality Management Program, under the direction of Jennifer Taylor, did. Their apple crumb cake was a huge hit!
On February 27, I enjoyed time with our students at BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing in a “President’s Fireside Chat.” Garrett Nogan of our BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing staff asked me various questions, while audience members sipped on coffee or hot chocolate and listened. Afterwards, I enjoyed fielding questions from students, faculty and staff. Although my team lost a competitive game of Scategories to end the day, all-in-all the event was a blast.
Before you know it, Commencement will be here. But until then, enjoy the rest of Spring Break and the final stretch of the spring semester afterwards. I hope to see you soon at one of our BC3 locations.
