(Butler, PA) Butler County Community College has been notified by the National Student Clearinghouse that its investigation of a recent breach did not find any Social Security or student identification numbers, or dates of birth provided by BC3.
BC3 in July was among numerous institutions of higher education nationwide to report having been informed by the National Student Clearinghouse that information in the organization’s third-party software program had been compromised.
The National Student Clearinghouse provides reports to institutions of higher education, guaranty agencies, lenders and servicers nationwide.
The U.S. Department of Education requires that institutions of higher education whose students receive federal financial aid report enrollment and degree information at least four times each semester. Information includes a student’s name, date of birth, address, Social Security number and program of study.
Because Social Security or student identification numbers, or dates of birth, provided by BC3 were not compromised, the National Student Clearinghouse stated it need not notify current or former BC3 students.
BC3’s servers and infrastructure were not compromised, and the college does not use the National Student Clearinghouse’s third-party software program that was breached, BC3 officials said in July.
