Last week at Elizabethtown College, I represented both BC3 and Pennsylvania’s 14 community colleges at an important announcement by Governor Tom Wolfe.
On January 29, I joined over a dozen of the Commonwealth’s college and university presidents, several school district superintendents, and Secretary of Education Pedro Rivera in signing on to the “It’s On Us PA” pledge. “It’s On Us PA” engages educational leaders as well as students, teachers, faculty, staff, civic leaders, families, and communities to make a personal and public pledge to play a role in preventing, addressing, and responding effectively to sexual violence.
The goals of the pledge are to:
- Recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault
- Identify situations in which sexual assault may occur
- Intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given
- Create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.
This pledge is part of a national movement. However, Pennsylvania is the first state to endorse a comprehensive “It’s On Us” campaign.
BC3 will be hosting informational events on the “It’s On Us PA” campaign in the coming year. You can take the pledge here.
