(Butler Township, PA) Butler County Community College evacuated its main campus in Butler Township on Thursday morning as a level of precaution after college officials were made aware Thursday morning about an online threat possibly against its main campus.
The college’s main campus has closed for the day. BC3’s additional locations in Armstrong, Butler, Jefferson, Lawrence and Mercer counties remained open.
College officials learned from Butler Township police about a threat on a social media channel. The threat referenced Oak Hills and Sept. 30 and pinned BC3’s main campus. BC3 officials were made aware the threat may have been posted locally.
BC3’s main campus is located on the former Oak Hills Golf Course.
The threat was a photograph of a message written on a white concrete block wall.
College officials are reviewing white concrete block walls within classrooms and other facilities on its main campus. Classrooms and other facilities were occupied Thursday morning when college officials learned about and began to address the threat. The campus was evacuated and closed by 10 a.m.
College officials will make a decision about main campus operations for Friday later today.
