(Butler, PA) Butler County Community College employees in 2022 served students on BC3’s main campus and at its additional locations, and as leaders with professional and community organizations.
BC3’s Above and Beyond Awards reflect a dedication to excellence initiative that college President Dr. Nick Neupauer began in fall 2013.
Group and individual Above and Beyond Awards are presented to those who demonstrate outstanding customer service. Those qualities may include willingness to assist others by going extra mile; acts of kindness related to one’s job; outstanding work in one’s job area, new or innovative ideas or practices or extra effort to help someone or some group at BC3.
A group of college administrators and faculty members who address food insecurity among BC3 community members received in August an Above and Beyond Award.
BC3’s food security team members recognized at convocation were Karen Jack, project director, KEYS; Jennifer Taylor, business instructor, coordinator of hospitality management program; Amanda Fleming, college business services specialist; Mikayla Moretti, director, special events, BC3 Education Foundation; Torey O’Donnell, associate director, student life; Juli Louttit, director, financial aid; Amy Gallagher, career development coordinator and academic adviser; Mary McGinnis, retired, transfer coordinator and academic adviser; Dr. Josh Novak, dean, student development; and Morgan Rizzardi, director, admissions.
A BC3 @ Cranberry student services specialist and technology support specialist received the individual Above and Beyond Award for her work with staff and for her genuine approach to helping students to succeed.
Rhiannon Baron also opened her home to a student with a housing challenge in agreement with the student’s family and provided transportation for the student. The student thrived at BC3 @ Cranberry and earned a scholarship to a Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree.
Elections and selections in 2022
Dr. Ryan Kociela, director, BC3 @ Cranberry, in December was elected to the board of directors for the Pittsburgh North Regional Chamber of Commerce, Wexford. Kociela was among six directors elected and will serve a three-year-term through 2025.
Moretti in November was named as Butler Downtown’s volunteer of the year. The organization also recognized Brian McCafferty and Vicki Hinterberger, members of BC3’s board of trustees.
Dr. Case Willoughby, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, in November was appointed to the James E. Scott Academy board of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators’ Student Affairs in Higher Education.
The board includes 20 accomplished vice presidents for student affairs, or the equivalent, who lead divisions at a wide variety of institutions throughout organization’s seven regions. The board’s primary responsibility is to provide advice and thought leadership on critical issues in student affairs and higher education and to advise the organization’s president and staff regarding these issues. Willoughby’s term on the board begins in April 2023 and ends in March 2025.
Kociela and Laura Wiest, an instructor in BC3’s business division, in early fall were appointed as co-chairs for the self-study review cycle for Middle States Commission on Higher Education accreditation.
As the Pennsylvania financial aid training chair for the Pennsylvania Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, Louttit in 2022 oversaw five training subcommittees.
Louttit also chaired the committee for the leadership development workshop for Pennsylvania Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators who aspire to leadership positions within the association.
