(Butler, PA) Butler County Community College has canceled the controlled burn of its shipping and receiving facility June 6 as a result of delays in the delivery of construction materials needed to finalize and to have employees move to a new operations building.
The 7,148-square-foot shipping and receiving facility on the south end of BC3’s main campus in Butler Township was scheduled to be burned as part of a Butler County Fire Chiefs Association training exercise for firefighters.
Building materials such as metal roof panels needed to complete the college’s nearby 10,000-square-foot operations building have been delayed in the current construction market, said Brian Opitz, BC3’s executive director of operations.
“The new facility is not ready to fully occupy,” he said.
Opitz said he expects the construction materials to be delivered within a couple of weeks.
Once materials arrive and are installed in the college’s new operations building, BC3’s shipping and receiving building will be razed to allow for the construction of the state-of-the-art Victor K. Phillips Nursing and Allied Health building. Groundbreaking is scheduled for later this summer, Opitz said.
The Victor K. Phillips Nursing and Allied Health building and the operations building are part of the college’s $18 million south campus construction project.
The firefighters’ June 6 exercise has been relocated to the college’s Public Safety Training Facility, Opitz said.
