I was a marginal high school student. Played football and baseball. Announced at basketball games. Loved to write. Decided to join the newspaper staff.
During my first class as a print journalism major, I thought that I would become a sports reporter.
Landed a job at a newspaper. Covered the Steelers. Pirates. Colleges. Loved higher education. Decided to earn advanced degrees.
I became Butler County Community College’s president in 2007. I announced recently that I am going to retire later this year.
During my 17-year tenure, I have talked with hundreds of BC3 students – many of them teenagers, as I was in my first class as a college freshman; others nontraditional-aged, seeking a different path, as I did in my mid- to late 20s.
I have been proud to shake the hands of thousands of BC3 graduates at commencement.
