What a week!
BC3 learned that Pennsylvania’s 14 community colleges will share in a $20 million Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College & Career Training (TAACCCT) grant. Our share is expected to be about $750,000.
We will partner with our sister institutions in an unprecedented way. By bringing workforce delivery and curriculum development systems to scale for achieving new levels of success with adult students, the primary focus will be for laid-off workers who have little chance of returning to prior wage levels without new credentials.
The focus will be on fields such as advanced manufacturing and logistics, energy distribution, production and conservation, and health care technology industries.
My father and many other relatives found themselves unemployed with the decline of the steel industry in the early 1980’s. Frankly, there was nowhere to turn. This grant will provide opportunities that many in this area didn’t have not all that long ago.
I am thankful for BC3 being a driver in workforce development and our community’s college.
