Hispanic Heritage: Day of the Dead Celebration

Honor your departed loved ones during the “Day of the Dead” celebration, presented by the BC3 Library.
“Day of the Dead” or “Día de Muertos” is a holiday held each year in Mexico and observed globally by those with Mexican heritage where families welcome back the souls of their deceased loved ones for a brief, but happy reunion. The BC3 Library will be hosting several events in observance of this holiday as part of its focus on Hispanic Heritage.
How to participate:
The BC3 Library invites the community to bring an item honoring your loved ones to be displayed on the traditional altar on Monday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 2. Please be sure to include your name and contact information on your items.
On Monday, November 1, there will be multiple screenings of the 2017 Disney Pixar film Coco (see showtimes below.) At 2:30 p.m., the library will host a “Day of the Dead” fiesta with traditional food and drink available and featuring several speakers who will be sharing the rich and cultural significance of this beautiful holiday. Phi Theta Kappa will be holding a skull-drawing contest as well.

Coco Film Screenings
Summary: Coco tells the story of a young Mexican boy named Miguel who journeys through the world of his ancestors on the Day of the Dead. It’s a wonderful visual introduction to not only the beautiful traditions of this holiday but also the sweet and poignant side of it. Coco has a running time of 1 hour and 45 minutes.
