
(Latrobe, PA) Xander Downing on Friday shot his second-lowest score as a Butler County Community College golfer and won medalist honor for the sixth time as a Pioneer as BC3 defeated the Community College of Allegheny County and moved to 6-0 this spring.
BC3’s Mitchell Covert placed second in the 323-365 victory in a match at Glengarry Golf Links, Latrobe, that included individual competitors from Westmoreland County and Pennsylvania Highlands community colleges.
Downing’s 2-over 72 was his best score since his 2-under 70 at North Park Golf, Allison Park, in May 2024.
Covert shot a 76, his lowest score since a 2-over 74 in the final round of the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship tournament in October at the Links at Spring Church, Apollo, where he placed second.
Brett Worthington, Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood, was third Friday with a 79.
BC3’s Jaxon Salata placed fourth with an 81, his best round of the spring; Will Dempsey, Community College of Allegheny County, and Javien Brumbaugh, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, Johnstown, tied for fifth with 82s.
Ben Perris added a 94 for BC3.
Westmoreland County Community College’s Jada Ford won medalist honor in the women’s match with a 108. Taylor Voloch, BC3, placed second with a 113.
Downing was also medalist at Lake Arthur Golf Club, Butler, on April 17 and in September and in May 2024; at North Park Golf Course, Allison Park, in May 2024; and in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship tournament at the Links at Spring Church, Apollo, in October 2023.
Downing and Salata are graduates of Butler Senior High School; Covert, of Lincoln High in Ellwood City; Perris, of Knoch; and Voloch, of Moniteau.
The Pioneers will host Penn Highlands Community College, Westmoreland County Community College and the Community College of Allegheny County at 11 a.m. May 2 at Lake Arthur Golf Club.
