Downing medalist for fifth time as BC3 golfers win spring-season opener

(Butler, PA) Butler County Community College golfer Xander Downing on Thursday won medalist honor for the fifth time as a Pioneer as BC3 defeated Jamestown (N.Y.) Community College at Lake Arthur Golf Club in BC3’s spring-season opener.

Downing shot a 7-over 79 as BC3 golfers swept the top four places in a 323-394 victory on their home course. BC3’s Jacob Marquardt was second with an 80; Parker Worsley third with an 81 and Mitchell Covert fourth with an 83.

Jamestown’s Daniel Towell tied BC3’s Jaxon Salata for fifth place with an 87. The Pioneers’ Ben Perris shot a 95.

Downing was also medalist in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship tournament at the Links at Spring Church in Apollo in October 2023; at North Park Golf Course in Allison Park and at Lake Arthur Golf Club in May 2024; and at Lake Arthur Golf Club in September 2024.

Downing, Worsley and Salata are graduates of Butler Senior High School; Marquardt, of Seneca Valley; Covert, of Lincoln in Ellwood City; and Perris, of Knoch.

The Pioneers will host Hocking Community College, Nelsonville, Ohio; Penn Highlands Community College, Johnstown; Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood; and the Community College of Allegheny County at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lake Arthur Golf Club.
