Lincoln High grad wins medalist honor for second time as Pioneers top CCAC

Covert on Friday shot a 3-over 75, his lowest score of the spring, and won medalist honor for the second time as the Pioneers topped the Community College of Allegheny County at Lake Arthur Golf Club and moved to 7-0.

(Butler, PA) Mitchell Covert shot his lowest score of the spring Friday and won medalist honor for the second time in his past three matches as the Butler County Community College men’s golf team defeated the Community College of Allegheny County and moved to 7-0.

Covert birdied four of six consecutive holes on the front nine and finished with a 3-over 75 at Lake Arthur Golf Club. The Pioneers also posted their lowest team score of the spring in their 319-383 victory.

The four lowest individual scores are added to determine the team score.

BC3’s Xander Downing shot a 78; Parker Worsley, an 82; and Jaxon Salata, an 84.

Downing placed second; Worsley tied for third with Javien Brumbaugh, Pennsylvania Highlands  Community College, Johnstown; and Salata finished fifth.

Covert birdied holes No. 3, 5, 6 and 8 on the front nine and No. 15 on the back nine. He also won medalist honor April 22 with a 5-over 77 at Lake Arthur Golf Club in BC3’s 331-334 victory over Hocking Community College, Nelsonville, Ohio.

The Pioneers’ lowest team score this spring had been a 323. Covert or Downing have won medalist honor in each of BC3’s matches this spring.

Caden Headley, Community College of Allegheny County, shot an 88 on Friday. Noah Ritchie, BC3, had a 93.

Jada Ford, Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood, won a 9-hole women’s match against BC3’s Taylor Voloch on Friday at Lake Arthur Golf Club. Ford shot a 51 and Voloch, a 60.

Covert is a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City; and Downing, Worsley, Salata and Ritchie, of Butler Senior High. Voloch is a graduate of Moniteau.

The Pioneers will visit the Community College of Allegheny County at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the par-72 North Park Golf Course, Allison Park, in a match that will include Penn Highlands Community College and Westmoreland County Community College.
