(Butler, PA) A current student in and recent graduates of the most popular program in Butler County Community College’s largest academic division have received scholarships totaling $6,000 from the foundation of a professional organization.
Gina Marsh is pursuing an associate degree from BC3 in business administration, which Daulton Roth and Tyler Beegle earned in May.
Each received 2022 scholarships from the foundation for the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Each intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting toward a goal of becoming a certified public accountant.
Marsh received $3,000, Roth $2,000 and Beegle $1,000 from the Pennsylvania Certified Public Accountants Foundation.
Marsh, of Mars, is a graduate of the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School, Midland; Roth, of Cabot, of Knoch High; and Beegle, of Pittsburgh, of Seneca Valley.
“We have sharp students”
Three current or graduates of BC3 receiving scholarships in a single year from the foundation for the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants are believed to be the most since at least 2014, said Laura Wiest, an instructor in BC3’s business division.
“We have sharp students,” Wiest said of those enrolled in BC3’s business division. “These three are exceptional.”
Sherri Mack is BC3’s dean of business.
“By awarding these scholarships,” Mack said, “the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants thinks these students have a lot of potential.”
Marsh is a member of Rho Phi, BC3’s chapter of an international academic honor society, and expects to graduate in December from BC3 and transfer to Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
Her father, John Marsh, and grandfather, William Marsh, were certified public accountants, she said.
“So I got to do some job shadowing as I grew up,” said Marsh, a part-time receptionist at an accounting firm. “It was a career path that was shown to me at a young age. It’s always growing. There’s no issue getting jobs.”

“I love numbers”
Roth was a member of Rho Phi and of Delta Kappa, BC3’s chapter of an international academic honor society for business students. He graduated from BC3 summa cum laude, a distinction for those with a final grade-point average of 3.75 to 4.0. The former BC3 president’s scholar intended to transfer to Duquesne University.
Beegle has transferred to Niagara University in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
“I love numbers,” Beegle said. “I have always been fond of doing calculations and equations.”
BC3’s business division, with 23 associate degree and certificate and workplace certificate programs, is the college’s largest in the 2022-2023 academic year.
Business administration was the division’s most popular program among new students and the division’s most popular among all BC3 students as of Aug. 8, according to Sharla Anke, the college’s assistant dean of institutional research and planning.
The 60-credit transfer program is available on BC3’s main campus, and at BC3 @ Armstrong near Ford City; BC3 @ Brockway in Brockway; BC3 @ Cranberry in Cranberry Township; BC3 @ Lawrence Crossing in New Castle; and BC3 @ LindenPointe in Hermitage.
